Amazon has officially unveiled its first smartphone. The device, which passed around so many rumors is named Fire Phone. The presentation was held on June 18 by founder and CEO Jeff Bezos. The smartphone is equipped with 4.7-inch screen display with a HD resolution, protected with Gorilla Glass.
According to Amazon, the phone is optimized to be used with one hand. The display brightness can reach 5up 90 nits. Bezos said that the company has spent considerable time on the design.
Fire Phone is based on a 4-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with a clock frequency of 2.2 GHz and has 2 GB of RAM. The main camera has 13 megapixels, f/2.0 aperture and optical image stabilization system. It takes high-quality images even in low light settings, as demonstrated on the slides. Fire Phone camera is compared to the 8-megapixel iPhone 5s camera and 16-megapixel Samsung Galaxy S5 camera .
The camera has a separate button on the side of the case, which first starts the application by pressing the Firefly, and the second, takes a picture. Fire Phone users will have unlimited cloud storage space for photos. The built-in camera can be used for books recognition, DVD, phone numbers, QR-codes, CD, URL, etc. The unit is also able to recognize TV shows and movies.
One of the highlights is the Fire Phone 3D-interface. We are not talking about similar opportunities that we already know for a 3D-smartphone. The interface is based on a system that tracks the user’s head position called Dynamic Perspective. For this purpose, on the front panel at the corners of the smartphone, there are four chambers that determine where the user’s face will be recognized. Each of these cameras are equipped with infra-red illumination, through which the person is seen from light to in the dark settings mode.
Dynamic Perspective function changes the screen , which creates the effect of depth. In particular, during the presentation, this feature was demonstrated by 3D-card types: the impression that viewers hover over the “Empire State Building”. You can use a new feature when reading and viewing documents.
Dynamic Perspective is proposed for various Fire Phone applications use, including games in which it will create a more realistic effect of depth.
Multimedia capabilities include Fire Phone stereo speakers with support for Dolby Digital Plus. The package will include earphones with flat cable, preventing tangling, thus solving the perennial problem of enhancement, Bezos said. Headphones can be anchored to each other for easy storage.
The Amazon smartphone offers instant access to Amazon Instant Video service (more than 200 000 videos – movies, TV series, shows), the bookstore and the Kindle Store music service; Amazon Music. The users will also be available to use standard applications like Pandora and Spotify. Also preinstalled on the device is Shazam, responsible for music recognition, followed by Amazon Music and other services.
Pre-order Fire Phone in the U.S. start already and will arrive exclusively to A T&T on July 25, 2014 for $199 for the 32GB with a two-year contract . In addition, each buyer will receive a free subscription to Amazon Prime service for 1 year.
Presentation of the first smartphone from Amazon passed by a decline in sales of the tablet developed by Kindle. In the first three months of this year the company sold about a million gadgets and that is almost two times less than in the same period last year. In this regard, the market share of Amazon tablet PCs almost halved and is slightly less than two percent.
