Prior to 2007, the word “Blackberry” was practically synonymous with “smartphone”. And then came the iPhone … then Android … and Blackberry has become synonymous with the inability to adapt to change. Now, in 2013, the company has finally made something new. Will the smartphone BlackBerry Z10 with multi-display to compete with iPhone 5? Let’s look at the features of both devices and try to compare them.

Size

Z10 resembles the iPhone, perhaps more than any other non smartphone. However, in all dimensions Z10 is slightly larger than the iPhone 5. But though the height and width differ significantly, Z10 is 18% thicker.

Weight

Z10 is also much heavier than the iPhone 5. But since the iPhone 5 – one of the lightest phones, and BlackBerry, in general, is not heavy.

Display

Display BlackBerry Z10 little more and more pixels. Although it can be argued that more 330 pixels per inch – it’s too much, but closer examination shows Z10 still sharper display.

Processor

On paper, both processors look the same. Z10 chip is similar (or the same?) For Snapdragon in Lumia 920, Motorola Razr HD and HTC One X.

Random access memory

Of course, this parameter Z10 has an advantage: 2 GB to 1 GB in iPhone 5.

Internal Memory

If the iPhone can be purchased with different amounts of internal storage on your own, the BlackBerry Z10 offers only 16 GB, but unlike the Apple device memory can be expanded using microSD up to 32 GB.

Wireless communication

Here we see parity. Both smartphones support the current superfast network LTE. If your local operator will not offer LTE, BlackBerry Z10 and iPhone 5 supports HSPA + (faster than 3G, but not LTE) and 3G network.

Camera

BlackBerry Z10 rear camera and iPhone 5 to have a resolution of 8 megapixels, but the Z10 higher resolution front camera – 2 megapixels. Z10 camera is another useful feature called Time Shift. In this mode, the camera captures frames before and after the “click” shutter. Then you can choose the most successful shots, scrolling a number of pictures on the timeline.

Battery

Z10 continues to lead (still on paper). Its high capacity battery than the iPhone. Unlike the smartphone Apple, removable battery at Z10, so that on occasion it can be changed, so to speak, on the go.

Ease of use and support

If BlackBerry 10 based on the operating system Android, it would be able to compete with the stunning selection of applications that are available for iOS-devices in the App Store. But the Z10 comes with the Windows Phone, the choice of applications for which there is very limited, so that in terms of software BlackBerry 10 is a clear loser. IOS App Store hits BlackBerry World in terms of quality and quantity on a huge margin. Of course, in the future selection of applications for BBW will only grow, but to catch up App Store is probably impossible.

However, a unique keyboard Z10 could be the most innovative new feature and an alternative virtual QWERTY, Swype and SwiftKey. Unlike the latter, the system prompts the BlackBerry is implemented in the form of floating proposals: if you see the word, just drag your finger up, to select it.

Findings

The BlackBerry Z10 at the same time as the iPhone 5 would be a very tough competition. Although the Z10 wins in terms of memory and a removable battery (but it comes much later), the rest of the lead with a narrow margin iPhone. Undoubtedly, BlackBerry can score points at the expense of popularity of “smart” camera and a comfortable keyboard, but as a functional alternative to iPhone is not suitable. This is still a very high quality fashion phone for a narrow range of business problems.

However, there are high hopes that the current version of the BlackBerry will be very successful. The company came out of the debt trap, and all that is going on with this brand, you can be called a real resurrection.
