While Apple Watch soon to make its first steps towards the general public, Google announced this evening the next major update for several of smartwaches Android Wear. Hitherto confined to the device to a smartphone, Google adds Wi-Fi support, in addition to some gestures.
Google clearly wants to bar the way to the Apple Watch with this new version designed for 360 Moto, LG G Watch, ZenWatch Asus, Samsung Gear Live, Sony SmartWatch 3, the LG G Watch R and the new LG Watch Urbane.
Soon, Android Wear will connect to a Wi-Fi network to receive notifications from the connected smartphone over a cellular network. The user can also send messages and use other applications. Although Android Wear does not yet offer total freedom and independence of a smartphone, it is already a first step towards this direction.
This update will also bring gestures. It will be possible to shake your wrist to scroll through your notifications and news feeds. Applications and contacts will be easier to access just by touching the screen to launch an app or send a message quickly. Unfortunately, the update is not yet available, it will arrive in the coming weeks.
