How one can test your iBoot on a Mac and Home windows with USBView

Observe the steps on this tutorial to take a look at the model of your iBoot.

For Windows users:

 This tutorial is for Windows users. It must first download the software USBView. Please have your iPhone 3G and switch to DFU mode.

Step 1:
Connect your iPhone 3G to the computer and launch iTunes> hold the Home + Power until screen turns black, then release the power button while keeping the home button pressed. Manipulation is successful if iTunes tells you an iPhone in recovery mode is detected.

On your iPhone screen should be black. If not, repeat step 1 to enter DFU mode:

Step 2:
Run the software USBView:

  • From the menu, click Options, then click Config Descriptors
  • Then click on File, then click Refresh
  • Recovery Select Apple from the tree on the left side

You should have the following screen and the version of your iBoot:

  • Your version is iBoot iBoot-359.3: You're old iBoot
  • Your version is iBoot iBoot-359.3.2 : you have the new iBoot

Step 3:
To get out of DFU mode after checking your iBoot: Hold the Home + Power button until the iPhone reboots.

If you have the old iBoot, version iBoot-359.3, you can use PwnageTool 4.01 to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, but your jailbroken iPhone must be already in the firmware 3.xx PwnageTool 4.1 Do not use if you used to Spirit jailbreak your iPhone 3G.

 

For Mac Users:

The version of your iBoot determine if you can jailbreak your 3G iPhone with PwnageTool 4.0.1. Note that the jailbreak with PwnageTool 4.0.1 applies only to the iPhone 3G is already jailbroken on firmware 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.1, 3.1.2 and 3.1.3. If you used Spirit to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, you can not use PwnageTool 4.0.1.

Step 1:
Connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes. Hold the Home button and Sleep / Wake button for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the Sleep / Wake button but continue holding the Home button until iTunes displays it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You can release the Home button.

On your iPhone screen should be black. If not, repeat step 1 to enter DFU mode:

Step 2:
Click the Apple menu in the top left and select About This Mac:

Step 3:
Click More info …:

Step 4:
In the left column content, select Hardware> USB> USB Bus High Speed> Apple Mobile Device (DFU mode):

Your iBoot is displayed in the Serial Number.

  • Your version is iBoot iBoot-359.3: you iBoot old.
  • Your version is iBoot iBoot-359.3.2 : you have the new iBoot

Step 5:
Close iTunes and disconnect iPhone from the computer. Hold the Home button and Sleep / Wake button until the image appears on the Apple iPhone. The iPhone will reboot.

If you have the old iBoot, version iBoot-359.3, you can use PwnageTool 4.01 to jailbreak your iPhone 3G, but your jailbroken iPhone must be already in the firmware 3.xx PwnageTool 4.1 Do not use if you used to Spirit jailbreak your iPhone 3G.
