A new iPhone 8 that drags the design of its predecessors the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but that has an air of renewal … After the jump we give you all the details of the new iPhone 8 Plus.

iPhone 8

As it has been seen in the photographs, the iPhone 8 design is very similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. The size, although it grows a few millimeters, is the same unlike the borderless version that we will see with the iPhone X. However, although we have the previous design, this new iPhone 8 is renewed by changing its back by glass, a glass that gives a rather renewed look and reminds us of the mythical iPhone 4, one of the most bestselling iPhones the company has had. Apple said in the presentation that they had designed with Corning the most resistant glass that has had a smartphone.

The camera protrudes discreetly from the glass, it is true that on the iPhone 7 the design was more successful as the same aluminum of the housing is protruding. The edge of the iPhone 8 Plus is constructed of high quality aluminum that should not suffer any damage by scratches, following the colors of it: Space Gray, Silver, and Gold. In the case of the Space Gray we will have a black frontal, while in the version silver and gold we will have it in white.

iPhone-8-Wireless-ChargingAs a detail, note that on this occasion the color of the device will be the one that marks the color of the packaging, or packaging, of it. In this case, the iPhone 8 Plus Space Gray, comes in a black box; the gold in a gold, and the silver in a white. Also in the back we will only see the word iPhone next to the caption “Designed by Apple in California”, “Assembled in China”, and have all the icons corresponding to the laws of each country.

Features

No doubt the camera is the great novelty of this new iPhone 8 Plus, a camera that looks the same as its predecessor but has been renewed at the hardware level. We continue with the 12 Mpx of the iPhone 7 but with a renewed sensor that now allows us to capture more vivid colors. The optics (which give a much higher luminance result than in previous models) in the iPhone 8 Plus have ƒ / 1.8 and ƒ / 2.8, in the case of the telephoto lens, which if you come from a model that is not “Plus” thank you. Also tell us that the iPhone 8 Plus camera has just been rated the best camera ever mounted on a smartphone according to analysts DxO-Mark.

As mentioned on previous occasions, the new Lighting of Portraits makes the portraits we do with this iPhone 8 Plus go a step further. Even in Beta phase (something that is sometimes noticed), we can now vary the lighting of our portraits between modes: natural light, studio light, contour light, stage light and mono stage light. The result of all the new light modes is surprising, as it was in its day the portrait mode of the iPhone 7 Plus, but we must take into account that we are before a beta and I tell you that the two stage lights are where the more we notice that we are facing a beta phase of this new illumination of portraits.

And certainly mention aside the ISP designed by Apple, a new image signal processor that greatly improves the capture of images, if before we had not lag at the time of taking a photo, now the capture is instant, so much they have incorporated a haptic response to the camera’s opener (which does not distort the image). The slow motion at 240 fps finally reaches the recording mode in 1080p, in addition to reaching 4k at 60 fps. New video and photo modes that are favored by the new types of coding that Apple brings in iOS 11 so that these will occupy us much less in our devices. Remember that both the iPhone 8 and the iPhone 8 Plus are available in 64GB and 256GB.

A11 Bionic

A11-Feature-640x354In this new iPhone 8 Plus, Apple has assembled the new Bionic A11 processor, a great brain that makes the iPhone work like hell. This stands out above all in the possibilities of Augmented Reality that Apple wants so much to promote with its new ARKit. The ARKit works perfectly on this iPhone 8, and I noticed a big difference with reference to the iPhone 7, now the feeling of reality is much greater and this is boosted especially with the improvement in the speakers of the iPhone 8 Plus (sound rises much more and the bass are much more powerful). The iPhone 8 Plus is the perfect iPhone to enjoy all new Augmented Reality applications.

Turning to the screen, you can see the change if you come from an iPhone 7, a better definition that is improved especially thanks to the possibilities of True Tone, the ability to adjust the color temperature of the same depending on the environment in the that we meet. The truth is that this change is noticed if we compare it with another device, I would say that it will not be necessary to use the Night Shift at night so that the light of the device does not bother you, since the color temperature change it does without us noticing.

iPhone 8 Plus

As we have said, you do not need to spend more than $1000 on the new iPhone X, obviously the most exclusive model, but this new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus bring a necessary renewal. An attempt to change design that is evident in the rear glass, which also makes the iPhone 8 is a premium device, we say seriously, with this review we are trying to transmit the features of this device but you have to see it live . If everyone was talking about the error of retaining an earlier design.

The iPhone 8 Plus looks similar to iPhone 6/6s/7, especially if we look at it frontally. On the back, however, there is a novelty that I particularly appreciated. The back, in fact, is in glass. A reinforced glass is made with several layers that give it a particular brightness. This glass also offers the same oleophobic treatment of the front and therefore holds very little fingerprints.

Looking at the display, it remains unchanged, at least the part, the display that remains a 5.5-inch diagonal IPS FullHD with 3D Touch and a density of 401 ppi. In addition to the great color gamut P3, which came last year with iPhone 7, here’s the True Tone technology we’ve seen on iPad. Thanks to a four-channel brightness sensor, white balance is automatically adjusted based on the ambient light we are in, allowing us to always have optimal visibility and less fatigue.

The battery should be 2675mAh, should because Apple does not provide detailed information, and will recharge in about 3 hours with the supplied charger or wireless charging. Fast charging is supported but only using a USB-C power adapter, such as a MacBook, but also a third party. This will recharge the battery up to 50% in 30 minutes.

The battery itself is good, in line with that of the iPhone 7 Plus. I managed to cover an intense day without any special problems, coming to about 14 hours of standby with more than 5 hours of active display, not using the energy saving that we can activate through settings.

In the tests conducted with Netflix and YouTube I found,  4% every 20 minutes of streaming playback under Wi-Fi connection with 50% brightness. In 10 minutes of play with Asphalt 8 you consume about 2%. 25 minutes of Google Maps, however, dropped the battery of 2/3%.

iPhone 8 Plus is confirmed to be an excellent evolution of iPhone 7 Plus, the one we used to call “S” but it’s hard to imagine that anyone with an iPhone 7 can choose to buy it. More likely to be purchased by those who have an iPhone 6 / 6s or earlier but there is always the “shadow” of the iPhone X that is still more desirable.

That said, the iPhone 8 Plus still offers great performance and excellent hardware (in relation to iOS) but are enclosed in a design that begins to make its years feel particularly at a time when the market trend is to make smartphones with a larger display between the display and the front.
