Hacker @ pod2g has said that he has a new jailbreak for all the exploits. This seems a lot closer to a possible jailbreak solution for iOS 5.1 than previously. In late March he even know that it still can take weeks until iOS 5.1 for A5 and A5X devices is jailbroken. @ chpwn reminds us that this does not mean that a jailbreak will soon come true: there's still a long process to fixed until the jailbreak actually be released.
Pod2g said on Twitter the following:
The term stands for ASLR Address Space Layout Randomization. This ensures that important data areas not at fixed positions back to find. The use of ASLR makes it harder for potential attackers to carry out a successful attack, due to the difficulty is made to a memory address to locate in an attack that Return Oriented Programming (ROP) is based.
It can take months under chpwn until the potential jailbreak is released. The discovery of a method, does not mean automatically that the goal is reached.
An untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 and iOS 5.0.1 is already available for some time, but iOS 5.1-users are limited to a (semi-) tethered jailbreak (not the new iPad, iPhone 4S and iPad 2). When a developer a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 will be out is still unclear. Besides pod2g chpwn work and also Stefan Esser @ PhoenixDev released a possible jailbreak.
