XDA community has been able to run AOSP Android 8.1 Oreo and Lineage OS 15.1 on the Samsung Galaxy S9, shortly after its release.
The Samsung Galaxy S9’s compatibility with Treble seems to work wonders. A few days after being able to run AOSP 8.0 on the phone, the XDA community is back with two good news.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 has been marketed since March 16, 2018. It took only 7 days to run LineageOS 15.1. For comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is only entitled to partial compatibility with LineageOS 14.1, with several key components like the camera and the mobile network not working.
These works are for the moment still in the experimental state, the installation of the ROM must still be simplified, but it will soon be possible to regain control of the smartphone interface.
