Valve announced that it will be launching Steam Link app, designed to allow Steam users to play games available on the platform directly on their iPhone, iPad, Android and Apple TV. A 5 GHz or wired Ethernet connection is required in order for the game to stream.
Due to the minimum requirements for streaming games, it will not be possible to play Steam content while on the move. Instead, you can do it at home using a device other than a PC/Mac, at a friend’s house or in another location that offers a high-speed wireless connection.
The Steam Link app, slated to launch the week of May 21st, allows gamers to experience their Steam library of games on their Android (phone, tablet, TV) and iOS-based (iPhone, iPad, Apple TV) devices while connected via 5Ghz network or wired Ethernet to a host system (Mac or PC), with Android access initially offered in beta.
Steam Link will be launched during the week of May 21st, and will not only be compatible with Apple devices, but also with Android devices. The app will include support for both the Steam Controller and those with MFi certification.
