This is a press release from Apple that the Board of Directors of the Company announced the terrible news on the night of Wednesday to Thursday:

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs died today."

Steve Jobs was suffering from serious health problems for many years and had undergone a liver transplant two years ago, after surviving pancreatic cancer in 2004. It's been several months since he had retired from active life at Apple, to rest. Last August, the creator of the Macintosh, the iPod or the iPhone had resigned from his position as CEO and handed over to Tim Cook. Pancreatic cancer against which he struggled for years no longer allowed him to perform his duties.

In his resignation letter, handed to the board, he explained:

"  I always said that if were to happen the day I could no longer perform my duties as CEO of Apple, I'd be the first to tell you. Unfortunately, that day has come.  "

Wednesday evening, Apple posted a picture of Steve Jobs on his official website, followed by the words "1955 – 2011." Further, a short text by Tim Cook paid tribute to him: "  Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world lost an exceptional human being. Those who have had the opportunity to know Steve and work with him have lost a dear friend and a mentor.Steve leaves a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple  .
