Microsoft on Tuesday introduced the new Surface Pro 3 tablet, which is based on the most modern hardware platform and Windows 8.1. Surface Pro price start at $799 , so the tablet looks expensive even for iPad. However, Microsoft says that Surface Pro 3 is not just a tablet but more like a notebook replacement . Since novelty is based on the “big” iron and “big” OS, and the price she is quite a big one.

And although Microsoft says Surface Pro 3 is a tablet , according to market specs, it competes more with MacBook Air, seven with the MacBook Pro.

If you compare the new Apple product with a 13.3-inch MacBook Air, the first thing worth noting is that the device has a more compact 12-inch diagonal screen, as oppose to the thickness of Surface Pro 3 which is located between the iPad Air and MacBook Air – 9,1 mm vs. 7.4 and 17.3 mm, respectively. Surface screen resolution exceeds the Apple laptop – 2160 x 1440 pixels against 1440 x 900 pixels in MacBook Air.

At the presentation in New York , the quality of of the product in terms of weight , Microsoft representative on the stage put the Surface Pro 3 on a scale next to the MacBook Air, and Apple’s notebook instantly fell under its own weight .

The word ” tablet that can replace your laptop ” was one of the slogans of the Microsoft presentation . It is for this reason that on the Type Cover appeared a full touchpad . Previously, there was a small touch area under the keypad touchpad called a stretch .

Pre-order of the Surface Pro 3 in the U.S. and Canadian residents can done starting this week , other countries on June 20.  The Core i3 processor and 64 GB version will cost $799 , and the most expensive version with Core i7 processor and 512GB for $ 1949 . An additional cost of $130 for the Type Cover, as compared to the MacBook Air prices which starts at $999 and up to $1749 for the version with the best configuration .
