According to several sources, TSMC have secured all orders for the A12 processor that Apple will use on the iPhone to be released in 2018.
With this news, which by the way was already in the air for several weeks, Samsung should be totally cut off from the production of the next Apple chip.
The A12 chip will be realized using the 7 nanometer process perfected in the last months by TSMC and able to ensure better performance and a lower energy demand. The current A11 Bionic used on the iPhone 8 and iPhone X is made using a 10-nanometer process.
TSMC is already working on a 5-nanometer process, which could be used on the processors that Apple will implement in 2019.
The Taiwanese company has again beaten the Samsung competition, as Apple has evaluated both for the supply of the A12 chip.
