Apple releases the macOS Big Sur 11.5.1 security update

Apple released macOS Big Sur 11.5.1, with some minor bug fixes. Apple says that macOS Big Sur 11.5.1 provides some necessary security updates and is for all users.

The only thing Apple says in the release notes is that they added “major security updates”. On its special page, Apple reveals a little more. The update resolves a security issue with the IOMobileFrameBuffer. As a result, a rogue app can add malicious code due to a problem. Apple indicates that they are aware how actively exploited was this vulnerability.

Therefore, you should download the update for your Mac as soon as possible. This ensures that you are up-to-date with the latest security measures. The macOS Big Sur 11.5.1 update is available for free by going to System Preferences> Software Update, just like with iOS. The download for this update goes as follows:

  • Go to System Preferences.
  • Click Software Update.
  • The Mac will now automatically search for the latest version. Click Download and Install to get the update.

Once there in the download section, you can also adjust the settings to automatically search for the latest versions.
