Apple has unveiled the new Apple Watch Series 5, the new version of the world’s best-selling smartwatch.
Let’s start with the main novelty of this new version that finally introduces the Always On Display, so with this new model, we will no longer need to rotate the wrist to activate the screen of our smartwatch, because these will always be active and ready ‘use.
This functionality was made possible thanks to the adoption of a new technology, called LTPO, which includes a display driver, an ambient light sensor and an integrated circuit for activating the display. Thanks to this new technology it is possible to lower the refresh rate from 60Hz up to 1Hz when the smartwatch is not active. For the rest, there do not seem to be other substantial differences compared to the previous model, except for a new integrated compass, which enriches the range of sensors.
Each dial has been optimized for the new display, to ensure maximum battery life: the screen brightness decreases when the user’s wrist is at rest and increases when it lifts or touches the display. Several advanced technologies work together to offer this new feature, including the industry’s only LTPO display, a very low-power display driver, an efficient power management chip and a new ambient light sensor. The combination of advanced hardware-software allows the Apple Watch Series 5 to have an autonomy of 18 hours
Once again Apple is attentive to security, in fact, the SOS service arrives, now available internationally on all models with integrated LTE, which works independently of the iPhone.
With the new integrated compass and the updated Maps app, they can see where they are going. They can also use the new Compass app to detect direction, slope, latitude, longitude, and altitude. They can even add one of the three new compass complications to their face to see which way they are going at a glance.
The new Watch Series 5 will also be available with optional titanium and ceramic cases, as well as a new black stainless steel version. Titan is a high-value material in the watchmaking world that has an excellent strength/weight ratio and is lighter than stainless steel. Available in two brushed finishes, natural titanium has a custom-made surface that helps maintain color and prevents discoloration, while sidereal black titanium is brighter than ever thanks to a diamond-like coating.
The classic styles remain, such as the gold, silver and black sidereal stainless steel dial, while the silver, gold, and sidereal gray aluminum dial is now made for the first time in 100% recycled aluminum 7000 series. This fall, the scratch-resistant white ceramic dial will also be available, along with a new Sport Loop strap and a wide range of new strap colors compatible with any Apple Watch generation.
Apple Watch Hermès introduces several new styles, including an update of the famous color block strap, presented last autumn, now with a new space black version with an exclusive Hermès dial with color shades.
