Asus took advantage of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona to present its new family of ZenFone 5 smartphones, which are in the medium-high range, but whose main novelty is the incorporation of the eyebrow or notch in the part top of the front screen to hide the sensors and the camera. The design, incorporated by Apple in its iPhone X but not invented by the brand of the apple, has already been replicated by several manufacturers.
Both the ZenFone 5 and the 5z have a 6.2-inch screen, FHD + resolution and 19: 9 aspect ratio, which occupies 90% of the front of the device. Asus presumes that the top notch is 26% smaller than Apple’s iPhone X.
The phones have a dual rear camera system consisting of a main sensor of 12 megapixels and focal aperture f / 1.8, and a secondary lens wide angle of 120 degrees. They also have dual stereo speakers and include ZenEar S headphones in the purchase pack. They also offer a fingerprint and facial recognition system, with a sensor located on the back that can also be used to display notifications by sliding the finger .
The two new Asus smartphones also offer ZeniMoji, emoticons created by the user that reproduce their facial gestures, can be shared via streaming and are compatible with the Facebook augmented reality effects.
The ZenFone 5 and 5z integrate the system ZenUI 5 of Asus, a set of artificial intelligence solutions to adapt especially to the user of the phone. Within this system are the solutions of photography such as AI Camera or AI Photo Learning. The first recognizes the context in which an image will be captured, to automatically choose a camera configuration among 16 scenarios.

For its part, the second one stores the user’s photographic preferences and suggests effects to be applied to the images already captured. AI Display automatically adjusts the color temperature of the screen to improve the display, while AI Boost is an automatic performance optimizer of the terminal that is able to improve up to 12.7% its speed of operation.
Another intelligent function of the ZenFone 5 and 5z is AI Charging, which slows down the chemical deterioration of the battery by identifying the periods in which the user leaves the smartphone charging while sleeping, and maintaining the load percentage by 80% until little before the time when you wake up, when you go up to 100%. Finally, AI Ringtone adjusts the volume of the ring tone according to the ambient sound, so that it can be heard in all cases without being annoying.
With a design, cameras and technology in common, the ZenFone 5 and the ZenFone 5z only differ in some specific specifications. While the standard model features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 mid-high-end processor and offers up to 6 gigabytes of RAM, the 5z model mounts a high-end Snapdragon 845 and has up to 8 gigabytes of RAM, in addition to up to 256 gigabytes of internal storage. Both have 3,300 milliamp batteries.
Availability And Pricing
The ZenFone 5 will go on sale next April, while the ZenFone 5z will do the same in June, the latter at a price from $499.
For its part, the ZenFone 5 Lite is a mid-range terminal that features dual camera systems in both the front and back. The first one has a main sensor of 20 megapixels complemented by a wide-angle lens of 120 degrees, while its rear is formed by a 16-megapixel camera and a secondary lens of the same characteristics.
This smartphone features a 6-inch FullView screen, FHD + resolution and 18: 9 aspect ratio, which occupies 80.3% of the surface of the front of the device. It is available with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 or 430 processors, features a 3,300 milliamp battery and offers facial and fingerprint unblocking services. The ZenFone 5 Lite will be available next March, in the colors white, black and red.
Asus has also introduced the ZenFone Max mid-range mobile phone (M1), a model characterized by its battery of 4,000 milliamperes that, according to the company, guarantees a range of up to 41 hours in standby with 4G connection, 36 hours of 3G talk and 23 hours of WiFi browsing.
