AT&T said Friday it plans to test the fifth generation super-fast (5G) mobile networks, it would be up to 100 times faster than existing connections. The company also said it will begin field trials this year in collaboration with the giant Intel and Swedish group Ericsson.

AT&T did not want to specify what speed would get the 5G connection, but it has come to be 10 to 100 times faster than LTE / 4G, which translates into a top speed of about a 299600Mbits / s download and a 75400Mbits / s upstream. That would be more than enough to upload photos to Instagram and send a few WhatsApps a day.

Anyway, still have to wait several years to test this new connection, especially in countries like Spain. AT & T wants to bring 5G cities like Austin before the end of 2016 and 5G infrastructure does not reach much of the territory in which the company operates approximately 2020. Verizon also will begin testing 5G solutions in 2016.

AT&T 5G  will be based on technologies such as millimeter wave, virtualization of network function (NFV) and software defined network (SDN). The operator has already migrated 14 million wireless customers to your virtualized network and says it will migrate several million more this year. In the next four years, AT & T wants to virtualize 75% of its network.
