DxOMark has thoroughly tested the new iPhone XS Max camera, which has highly ranked a score of 105 the second best smartphones of all time after the Huawei’s P20 Pro, scoring higher than the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Google Pixel 2.
DxOMark specifies that the iPhone XS and XS Max have the same camera, so the test applies to both devices even if the tests were done only with the Max model.
During the tests, DxOMark found that the iPhone XS Max has excellent photographic and video quality in bright light, with a very wide dynamic range and good details. In terms of photographic quality, the outdoor image display tends to be spot on, with high levels of detail and pleasant colors.
The review adds that Apple’s new Smart HDR feature generates images with an excellent subject exposure and wide dynamic range in all conditions. And the differences can also be seen with the previous model.
As for the photos, the camera of the iPhone XS Max reaches the score of 110.
Regarding the videos, DxOMark states that the iPhone XS Max shows an exceptional quality video in bright light. The score reached is 96.
DxOMark concludes that the iPhone XS Max has one of the best mobile cameras ever tested, with improvements evident in many areas compared to last year’s iPhone X. The review promotes the iPhone XS Max camera as very reliable overall.
In low light, however, DxOMark found that the noise becomes a little more intrusive than other high-end phones, adding that the zoom capabilities of the iPhone XS Max are slightly lower than the competition, specifically if compared to those of the Huawei P20 Pro. Despite this, the device is referred to as a foolproof option for any mobile photographer.
For ratings and analysis in smartphone camera reviews, DxOMark states that its technicians acquire and evaluate over 1,500 test images and more than two hours of video, both in controlled laboratory environments and in internal and external natural scenes, using the camera’s default settings.
Overall, the camera of the new iPhone XS Max reaches 105 points, second only to the 109 points of the camera on the Huawei P20 Pro.
