HTC has up to now launched two smartphones on the market that focused on the use of the social network Facebook. The HTC ChaCha and HTC Salsa were provided with a special button tht let users access their Facebook account. Bloomberg reported that the Taiwanese manufacturer will bring in 2013 a Facebook smartphone on the market.

The current Facebook-phones are not exactly be called a great success. The equipment specifications are also not super good. Hopefully the new smartphone will be a device that is progressive and not behind the starting market. For a while, rumors has been running aroung about Facebook working on releasing its smartphone, if the rumors are true, probably will be fitted with a modified version of Android (yet) more facebook features. But it could also just a combination of Android and WebOS.

“Facebook Inc. (FB), owner of the largest social network, is working with HTC Corp. to built its own smartphone for release as soon as mid-2013, people with knowledge of the matter said.

The companies had intended to release the device as early as the end of this year, and pushed back the timetable to give HTC more time to work on other products, said some of the people, who requested anonymity because the plans aren’t public. Facebook is also developing a modified operating system for the device and has assembled a team of former Apple Inc. (AAPL) programmers to improve its iPhone application, people said.”

Initially, the new FaceBook phone from HTC is already on the market, but according to insiders, the launch of the phone is now postponed from mid-2013. So far, it has not been mention which operating system the smartphone will run or possible specifications. Given the previous versions of the Facebook phones, we assume that the unit will be equipped with Google Android. I still think of Android as an OS with a derivative of WebOS UI.
