RIM Bringing Blackberry Messenger to iOS and Android Devices

In line with Boy Genius Report sources, RIM has the intention to bring one of its leading products, BlackBerry Messenger, on Android and even iOS. The Canadian manufacturer is currently finalizing the issues of availability and price, even if the trend would be free.

According to our sources, RIM has not yet finalized details surrounding timing or pricing, but we have heard that the company might make the software free to all users. We’re also told strategy is still being developed, however, and RIM may end up charging users a one-time fee or even a recurring fee for access to its BBM service on third-party platforms.

The thing is all the more surprising that the BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is a flagship project of RIM and one of the main arguments for retention of BlackBerry users. Canadian society based largely on its communications strategy this feature inherited from a time when RIM manufactured pagers, and now presented as a sort of super-free SMS and with additional features (photos, videos, audio, group conversations) .

BBM on Android and IOS could be only reduced versions only turning around the text. For multimedia features, it should therefore go to the BlackBerry: it would be there in a promotional event, even if these advanced features are not the heart of BBM. The version for Android would be so acquired, the Google OS to a deep implantation BBM through the system. This is not the case of IOS, on which RIM would still be reserved.
