On July 10, 2008 Apple opened the Ap Store doors for the first time. There were currently about 500 apps available at the time, including a handful apps from Apple itself. One was Texas Hold'em , a poker game now from the App Store is already taken . The rest was created by external developers. When Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007 to the market, Steve Jobs was still opposed to apps .
According to Steve Jobs, Webapps were good enough and with HTML5 was possible, giving you the impression of a native app used:
You do not want your phone to be like a PC. The last thing for you is to have loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it does not work anymore.
Still, Apple tacked a year later and now has led to about 630,000 and nearly 30 billion apps downloads.
The App Store was an instant success. Upon the first opening weekend, they were already 10 million apps downloaded and particularly you could install new apps wirelessly on the App Store.
Previously owned platforms such as Windows Mobile often forced to use an exe file on your desktop to start or copy files. The easy access to the App Store and the equally easy checkout with iTunes account from the App Store was a great success. Developers pledged their jobs and started a new life as app-entrepreneur. New companies emerged and 'apps' were a popular concept in many areas. Last month Apple celebrated the iPhone fifth birthday.
