TSMC released the first batch of Touch ID sensor for iPhone 6, iPad Air and iPad mini 



Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) started production of the second generation Touch ID fingerprint scanners, which will be used in new Apple smartphones and tablets, reports GforGames.

Allegedly , in April  TSMC cooperated with the Cupertino company about fingerprint sensors for the iPhone 6 , iPad Air and iPad mini 2 / 3 . ​​Sensors in new devices will be carried out using an advanced 65nm process, which will improve the efficiency and reliability of the reading prints.

The iPhone 5s fingerprint module is built- in Home button , with a thickness of 170 microns ( about twice as thick as a human hair) analyzes layers of the skin and provides images with resolution of500 ppi. Transition to the new process is supposed to provide higher recognition accuracy .

At the moment, very sophisticated device used in the iPhone only provides two actions: unlock smartphone and authorization purchases in the App Store. It is expected that with the release of iPhone 6 , new iPad and iOS 8 will bring a wide range of features.

Sources at Apple say that the company has big plans for Touch ID. CEO Tim Cook Corporation , commenting on the financial results for the quarter I,hinted that the new products can go beyond the production of hardware. Probably it will be mobile payments . Apple has at the moment there is a huge number of users with credit cards and fingerprint scanner in iPhone 5s.

Perhaps mobile payments using fingerprint sensor will be a key feature the next version of the operating system. Apple could improve the safety of operations at mobile payments – iPhone and iPad will turn into a reliable electronic wallet .
