Verizon is sending out invites to a different press experience as a way to be held on Tuesday, January eleventh in New York Metropolis .

The largest U.S. wireless carrier will make the long-awaited announcement at an event Tuesday in New York City, a person familiar with the matter said Friday.

Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs will join onstage with Verizon Wireless’ President & COO Lowell McAdam to make the Big annoucement, reports All Things Digital blog.

While the appearance isn’t 100 percent assured, sources in a position to know tell me that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Jobs will likely join McAdam onstage in New York when he announces the addition of the iPhone to its handset lineup.

Jim Dalrymple of The Loop (which exclusively covers Apple) confirms that he got the same invite. Something is definitely up.  Gizmodo (of iPhone 4 prototype fame) was not invited. And they note that they’re normally very friendly with Verizon.

Could it be for the long-rumored Verizon iPhone? WSJ thinks so. Will Apple CEO Steve Jobs join VerizonVerizon Wireless’ President & COO Lowell McAdam onstage to make the BIG announcement? Well we all will have to wait for 1.11.11 to find out. (9to5Mac)
